Our lab is interested in how the human brain engages in and enables musical experiences. We use behavioral and neuroimaging tools (EEG and fMRI) to examine the mechanisms underlying sensorimotor coupling with music and what gives rise to the peak experience of “being in the groove,” and we are also interested in understanding the structure of autobiographical memory via music-evoked remembering. Aims are to understand the psychological and emotional states of an individual “in the moment” in order to enable dynamic structuring of the musical interaction.
